Do Vampires Worry About Blood Transferred Diseases?

Sometimes strange things go through my mind.

This is probably something that is talked about in vampire novels. I’m not really that well-researched in the whole vampire culture which has become more popular as of late. But since I wrote a novel with a vampire in it and will eventually edit it and even continue the series, I thought about whether or not vampire’s take into consideration “Safe-Biting”.

Ekko cut herself, and was talking about how the blood tasted funny, but good. Keren warned her that it’s good to suck on the cut but it’s not good to drink someone else’s blood because of the myriad of diseases that the other person may have.

And that got me thinking: do any books writing on the vampiric mythos talk about the dangers of ingesting infected blood?

Yes, vampires are immortal and all, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be subject to dibilitating diseases.

Maybe it can’t be a premise that could occupy a whole novel, but it is something that a vampire may think about before he goes on a feasting spree.

That reminds me of Basement Vampire, a video series that I did and basically didn’t talk about too much with the rest of the world because it was silly, but it was fun for me and those who participated.

Movies and books romanticize life. But I would imagine that there would be the vampires that weren’t cool. The vampires that weren’t as good at vampiring. The shy vampires that lived in their mom’s basement and would rather not hang out with the cool, studly vampires that got all the babes.

And so I made a 30 part video series of a geek that became a vampire. He didn’t want to tell his mom because then he’d get in trouble. Furthermore, a life consisting of avoiding sunlight and people wasn’t all that different from his previous existence. Eventually I bring along a WOW addict that wants to be a vampire (Jeff) and an uber geek that even geeks are scared of talking to (John). Basically, they just played themselves.

This was a creative exercise to get me ready for Nanowrimo. I did it in October so that I could have 30 episodes to post daily for November. I tell ya, that video series took the community by storm… I think a whole 4 people saw it. That’s including the people involved. Ah well, it was a lot of fun to make.

But I never did talk about diseases, and that would have been a cool episode to rant about.

I really have to get to editing that novel. Maybe that will be my July project. Or my June project!

That would be a cool goal. A novel a year. And maybe a couple of CD’s a year. I may not be successful in society’s eyes, but I’ll certainly be prolific! Huzzah!
