Chatty

Dearest little growing up girl, Every day you take me by surprise these days. You seem to have grown into another phase of life and caught me off guard. Your speech is so clear and so grown up. You act like such a big girl.

We’ve had a lot of changes lately. Now you guys go to a babysitter’s house while mommy goes to work. This seems to be working out well and you are both enjoying it. She is a very good cook too so that helps. This week apparently you were a meat fiend with Italian sausages and chicken souvlaki. The only recent reference you made to Carm (the old babysitter) was this week when we were walking somewhere. All of a sudden you held up your arms and asked me to pick you up. Then you said “Carm call me “Uppy girl”. ”

This week you have decided you no longer nap. I am hoping that changes again. I need afternoon naps. I like naps. You told me that playing is too much fun. One of the things I notice now is that you are getting good at a lot of stuff. Playing and helping stuff. Now that you don’t sleep we do stuff together in the afternoon while Ekko is at school. Today you helped me bake cinnamon rolls. Ekko has always taken over the roll of my primary kitchen helper but now you are getting very competent. Your hands were so sticky with butter and brown sugar, and you were delightfully chatty. You can always be my kitchen buddy!
Earlier in the week we had made three snowmen. The two bigger ones fell over in the warmer weather and only the baby one is left. You chatted a lot about the baby one and how he must be lonely because every baby needs either a daddy or a mommy. Eventually we decided to write a little story about the snowmen – You dictated it and it was something like this….”The little snowman is okay. He had a mommy and a daddy snowman but they fell over. So he needs a new mommy and daddy. Zoe and Ekko were going to make a new mommy and daddy to make him happy. He was sad. They needed hats and mittens to keep them warm. It is cold outside. They used a carrot for everybody’s noses. They were all happy. The end.”

This morning you were colouring a picture of a snowman (and doing an amazing job of staying in the lines which shocked me) and I told you it was beautiful. You thanked me and you said “Ekko thinks I just scribble but me no scribble. I colour carefully.”

Today you decided you aren’t going to wear diapers anymore. Just clear out of the blue. We’ll see how it goes. I am scared of the laundry! But when daddy said “wow!” and congratulated you on it, you told him that it isn’t great. You said “it is lovely. Ekko say that underwear is lovely.”

You like to sing. Almost all the time. You learn the words to songs so quickly. But you also like to make up songs. You and I were alone in the car the other day and I sang to you something like “what am I to do my little dove?” You responded back in song (a similar melody to what I had sung) “I don’t know my little mommy”. It made both of us laugh and laugh.

Last night both Mommy and Daddy had to work so you went to hang out at baby Jada’s house. When Daddy brought you by my work late at night to pick me up, I asked you if you had a good supper. You said “yup”. I asked what you ate. You said “It was tasty”. I said that was good and what was it. You replied “I dunno. Matt said it was tasty.” Then you flirted with Uncle Patrick and blew kisses at him as we left.

Two weeks ago you were so sick with strept throat and it is such a treat to have my happy girl back. You wake up in the morning and you tell me things like ” I happy Mommy”. “I love you Mommy”.

The other day I was busy doing something while you and Ekko were playing in the next room. All of a sudden I heard you say to her “I love you my Ekko” and she said “I love you too my Zoe”. Then you both stopped and hugged before going on with your game. Made me so happy.

You are dying to go to school. We are going to have to find some classes for you to go to in the afternoon while Ekko is at school. You stand outside her classroom and sigh. You say “when I five, I can go there too”. Don’t rush it my darling. Please don’t rush it.

I’m going to quit because this is very long. And I feel in need of a cup of tea. If you were awake and I said that, you would start singing “Polly put the kettle on”.

I can’t imagine loving anyone more than I love my girls and their daddy. You are my heart. – Mommy
