Internet back up
With putting our house up for sale, Daddy took down our internet because all the wires weren’t particularily pretty. But after over a week with no offers on the house, he decided we needed the internet too much and hooked it up last night. I still don’t see all the wires so that’s good. Anyway, now he was bugging me that I needed to write an Ekko letter.
It has been busy and crazy for us. I’m trying to think of what has been the fun and interesting stuff to tell you about. We have had lots and lots of people going through our house to see if they want to buy it. This means that every time you and Mommy have to leave for a while. The other day you were very sad because I had to wake up in the mdidle of a nap. We sat on the ledge by the sidewalk for a few minutes while you cried on my shoulder and I tried to figure out where we should go. Maria, one of our neighbours, saw us and waved us over. She brought us in her house and let you play with her dog Peppie until it was okay for us to go home. Your tears stopped as soon as Peppie came out to play! My girl loves dogs. She says we can go back anytime we need a place to escape to. We have such good neighbours here and are going to miss them when we move. They keep telling mommy how much they are going to miss Ekko.
Mommy was a bit sick and supposed to rest for a few days last week. The ladies from our Bible study group have been wonderful at helping us. Gwen came over one day and took you home with her. The only problem was that you had so much fun you didn’t want to come back at the end of the day. You love being with Gwen. I don’t blame you! She’s amazing. The next day, Madeline came over. The two of you had quite a good time cooking lunch together and she helped you have a bath. One of the funny things was that Madeline asked you what the name of your goldfish were. You told her “goldfish” but because your speech isn’t always the clearest, she was sure that you said “doll face”. So she kept calling your goldfish “Dollface” the rest of the day. You found that quite humourous. And Ada came another day but you slept the whole time she was here. It is nice to have all these ladies taking care of us.
One day last week we found some old seeds on our backshelves and decided to plant them. You helped mommy rake up a spot to put in the carrots. Then you disappeared for a bit down the other end of the yard. With serious concentration you focused yourself for quite a while. I decided to just let you play because I figured there was nothing that could hurt you. Eventually you filled up your little watering can several times and dumped it on the spots where you had been playing. Apparently, you decided to take the package of peas (which was almost full) and plant them for me. Whoever buys this house will find surprise peas all over our backyard! There is some in the lawn and some in every bit of garden we have (including the geranium pots!). That’s my girl! The budding gardener. You were glowing with pride of your accomplishment.
With Mommy being a bit sick and the house stuff up in the air, you’ve spent more time at Uncle Aldo and Auntie Becky’s. That has been great fun for you. I think you may end up in health care. You’ve enjoyed the whole episode of changing Uncle Aldo’s bandages on his hand and helping Auntie give him his IV’s a lot. What a cutie. I think Auntie and Uncle Aldo have enjoyed you too.
You’ve been sick with a bad cough for weeks. And after oodles of rough nights, last night you slept through the whole night without waking up once. In fact you are still sleeping. Yeah! (and mommy and daddy got to sleep well too!!!) I think this antibiotic is working. And you are such a good girl with your medicine now. You hate it but have learned to take it when Mommy says you have to.
This past weekend we went to Ottawa. The Shepherd family was all getting together to have a surprise birthday for Grandma Shepherd. She was turning 70. Inspite of being somewhat sick through it, you had fun. I loved watching you picking dandelions with Elizabeth and eating peaches with Kayla. It is good to see you with your cousins. And when we all sang happy birthday to Grandma, you excitedly joined in. I think it is one of your favourite songs. You love your Grandmy and Grandpy, and I think you made them quite happy with all your hugs and chatter. You also really liked Uncle Dave’s dog Yondo. She was very gentle with you and you were enamoured. Auntie Garfus thought it would make Uncle Bill happy to know that you warmed up to her when she held your books and read to you. You are so easy to make friends with. A book is all it takes.
Last night you were thrilled to be home again. You like your house and your bed a lot. After helping mommy cook up some lentils and spaghetti sauce stuff, you filled your face with Daddy – Happily chattering the whole time until Daddy tried to get you to talk on the phone to Auntie Lizette. Then you told him that your arm was too tired to talk. What a monkey.
I had to laugh last night too because I was eating some cheese. You were helping me make my little cheese sandwiches and asked if you liked cheese. I said “You never try the cheese so I don’t know. Mommy likes cheese.” You are always insistent that you don’t like cheese when people try to give you some. Anyway, for some reason, last night you decided to try it. You scraped a bit off on your fingernail and tasted it several times. Eventually you told me that you liked cheese. Then you sat there and ate as many slices as I would give you! Yeah. That’s my girl. Silly monkey. I think one time when you were quite little somebody gave you some goat cheese and ever since you have thought you hated cheese. Last night you munched enough Candaian cheddar to make up for it! Mommy doesn’t like goat cheese either so no worries about Mommy trying to feed you that kind.
I suppose that is enough rambling for now. I love you so very much my best girl. – Mommy
